Matsumoto Hoji, a Japanese illustrator of the late 18th century, created frog prints from the Meika Gafu album. His frog prints are known for their minimalist composition, classic ukiyo-e style, and charming subjects. The prints draw on the folkloric symbolism of the frog in Japan, where it represents good luck and prosperity.

A firm favourite at Kelvin Rooms - we are so in love with this little guy! These fun prints are a contemporary adaptation of a woodblock print from 1814 by Matsumoto Hoji. The Japanese word for frog is “kaeru”, which can also mean “to return”.
