The mortar is handmade from a natural material, which means it can vary in size, shape and colour and this is what makes them all unique. The raw surface of the stone stands in contrast to the polished inner.
These riverstone pieces are carved from basalt boulders from the Marapi volcano in Central Java. Washed down the river during the rainy season, the boulders are then collected and polished to give a smooth finish.
Each piece of riverstone is collected and handmade by Indonesian craftspeople, which means that it can vary in size, shape and colour, but this is also what makes them unique.
An excellent choice for crushing spices and herbs and has been appraised by local chefs who love the weight and feel of the sturdy mortar. It is also great for making dressing, dips or pesto.
NB: This is one of a kind and measurements do vary.

This item is just beautiful and perfect present for son in laws birthday 👍👌💯✔️and the dish is lovely as well so nice I may keep it 😍Thankyou
Love it, it has such weight to it and will look amazing in my sons kitchen
Just Love love love this, love the idea, love the look, and the weight. This was a present for my sons first house, he isn’t moving until September but I couldn’t wait to give it to him, he loves it too
I love the idea, and the mortar made from river stone is absolutely beautiful. The only thing that worries me a bit, is the weight. It is really heavy, it would be perfect if the hole were bigger or the stone a little smaller. But the look compensates for it all! The depth of the hole is also perfect, nothing falls out during grinding.
